Growing Trees

Growing Trees

     My husband's sister came to visit us this weekend and brought us two trees.  I was more than excited!  One was a Magnolia tree and the other one is shown in the picture above. I don't know what this tree is yet but I found a great place in the front yard for it.  So far only one chicken saw us digging and came searching for some yummy worms.  Tyler decided he wanted planted too!  It brings me so much joy to see my kids having fun in the yard.  He was a great help too making sure the hole was big enough.  We dug the hole twice as wide as the root ball and twice as deep.  After planting we gave the trees plenty of water and it rained that evening so they enjoyed an extra sweet drink.

My Heart's Own Garden

My Heart's Own Garden

     One of my favorite childhood primary songs growing up is I Have a Garden which my mother sang to me.  From one of the verses of the song is where I found the title of my blog.  The song describes how I feel about nature, life, family, and God.  I was sorely disappointed when the song didn't make it into the new Primary Songbook.   I think of the song often, especially when I am working in my own garden, whether it be in my yard, or the with the special spirits Heavenly Father has given me to raise.

I Have a Garden by Maryhale Woolsey

I have a garden,
a lovely garden,
With flowers blossoming ever fair;
Where sun shines brightly,
and rain falls lightly,
And breezes gather sweet fragrance there.
Song-birds come singing out of the sky;
Butterflies winging,
hovering by;
And in my garden,
my lovely garden,
There's always beauty to greet the eye.

I have a garden, a secret garden,
Where thoughts like flowers grow day by day;
'Tis I must chose them, and tend and use them,
And cast all wrong one like weeds away.
Goodness and love are seeds that I sow;
God up above will help me I know,
To keep my garden,
my heart's own garden,
A place where beauty will always grow.

         Life is a learning process and I hope to use this blog as a sort of record of my journey.  Even though my children are half grown and I have been gardening for a few years now,  I am still learning new things every day and I want to share what I have learned and what inspires me and brings joy to my life.   Most of my posts will consist of working out in my yard, but there will also occasionally be posts about my family or something that inspired me because my family and spirit are a part of my garden too.
